What is Project Deity Cell?
Project Deity Cell is a narrative-driven Metroidvania where the players' conversations with the residents of the derelict space station, Pantheon One, matter just as much as how creative they are with a weapon. Players take on the role of Feira, a dutiful space operative, hellbent on seeing her mission through until an encounter she never trained could see her worldview to be put into question.
Our team is interested in learning as much as we can about the indie pipeline from this experience, up to and including releasing a demo to the public of Deity Cell by autumn of 2025. We are working with both the Burgess Institute and Spartan Innovations at MSU to assist us with the business front of the project.
Some major inspirations for us include Metroid Dread, Fallout New Vegas and Hollow Knight.
Players can customize Fiera's loadout to suit their preferred style of traversing Pantheon One. Weapons, upgrades, and items are all are determined by how many cells Feira can carry.
Weapons in Deity Cell serve a dual purpose of being both interesting combat tools and utility items that allows Feira to find better ways to traverse Patheon One. Examples include:
Propulsion Launcher
Low damage, high knockback grenade launcher that can hurl enemies into environmental hazards
Allows Fiera to propel herself across chasms and over tall obstacles
Freezethrower
Low range, continuous blast of high density liquid nitrogen which slows enemies and can freeze them solid
Allows Fiera to use frozen enemies as platforms to reach new areas of Patheon One
Sunbeam Rifle
High damage, low fire rate semi-automatic that shoots a rays of plasma that can bounce off obstacles
The Sunbeam doubles as an excellent light source in areas where the Pantheon One is pitch black
Allows Fiera to set flammable objects alight and cut through steel cables
Who might you meet in Project Deity Cell?
Madrid Vargas is a resident of Pantheon One, a man who survived the fall of Earth. Dr. Vargas hopes to avoid the factional conflicts on board the space station and offers his medical services to anyone, human or otherwise.
"Oh, the armed guards are really just public volunteers. But yes, they do help handle my appointments." -Dr. Madrid Vargas
Kalastria is an interdisciplinary criminal, and it's rare of her to work so dutifully on another person's dime. It's just that she'll make off with more money this way than she could've if she sold her contact's innards, and that actually covers a lot of ground if you're careful with your cleavers and precise with your preservatives!
"You'd probably be surprised how many people are more valuable dead than alive, once you start practicing a more classical form of disembowelment." - Kalastria
Sazario Bellagran hides in the annals of Pantheon One, enjoying a momentary respite from the watchful eyes of imperial law. The player is tasked with bringing this rogue scientist into custody, alive if they're feeling merciful.
"I think it's rather kind of me not to think any less of you." - Sazario Bellagran
This is a demo track meant to introduce the players to one of Deity Cell's core areas, the lush sewers of The Drain.
